Pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes §42-471, an act regarding the safeguarding of personal information, it is the policy of Tierney, Zullo, Flaherty & Murphy, P.C. to protect the confidentiality of, prohibit the unlawful disclosure of, and limit access to Social Security numbers and other personal information, as defined by statute, obtained and used in the normal course of business from its employees and clients. Personal information does not include information publicly available information that is lawfully made available to the general public from federal, state, or local government records or widely distributed media.
Our policy is to take reasonable measures to protect Social Security numbers and other personal information obtained and used in the normal course of business. Social Security numbers and other personal information may be disclosed as follows: the disclosure if necessary for a legitimate business purpose including the use of information in litigation matters, we receive authorization from the client permitting the disclosure of such information, or the disclosure is required to comply with state and federal reporting requirements. Any other unlawful disclosure of Social Security numbers and other personal information is prohibited.
Tierney, Zullo, Flaherty & Murphy, P.C. will ensure necessary precautions are taken to protect the privacy of Social Security numbers and other personal information. Any firm Partner, attorney, or employee in violation of this Privacy Policy shall be subject to disciplinary action, including but not limited to, administrative action by the Connecticut Judicial Branch, Statewide Grievance Committee, Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel, and/or termination of employment. Nothing contained within this policy shall prevent the other lawful actions pursuant to Federal or State law or regulation, including but not limited to the assessment of civil penalties as set forth in Connecticut General Statutes §42-471.
